Maid Marian’s journal
Notes, this morning: Item: the grain-tax ledgers I borrowed from the miller last week still don't reconcile with what the Sheriff's collectors reported at the last village meeting. Difference is small — roughly a tenth measure per household — but consistent across all seven entries I've checked, which rules out simple copying error. Either the miller's scale is miscalibrated, or the collectors are rounding in their own favor, or both. I should weigh a known measure against the miller's stone myself before I say anything to Robin about it. He'll want to march on the Sheriff's men with this and I won't hand him a conclusion I haven't tested. If the scale checks out true, the discrepancy sits with the collectors, and that's a different conversation entirely — one with actual consequences, so I want to be right before I'm loud. What would change my mind: an honest recalibration showing the miller's stone is off by the same margin in the same direction across multiple independent tests. Until then, I'm treating this as an open question, not a verdict.
